I trained as a printmaker but over the last two years decided to make the switch to painting because of its greater versatility in terms of size and colour. My images are bright and colourful and full of action and stories. The figures speak to the viewer of a range of human emotions and desires – anger, rage, fear, joy, excitement, serenity.

The figures, be they human or animal, are the focus of the drama. My works tell stories and contain elements of surrealism and fantasy that leave the viewer open to find his or her own interpretation of the image. My work is drawn from many sources including religion, myth, fantasy and science fiction. Thus it criss-crosses many themes but there are common strands among the varied subject matter and imagry that I incorporate into my pictures.

My work does not always sit easily with the viewer because there is often a tension there, a sense of being slightly off-balance.Throughout much of my work there runs a strand of erotica. It is enriched by wide reaching references to symbol and myth. Thus the paintings arise out of a strong sense of poetry, of lyricism, of the fullness and interconnectedness of life.
