Rebecca White Taggart (RWT) is revisiting the medium of linoleum block printing as a means of expressing a whimsical view of the world. Working in a series of images that resemble a story, the viewer is invited to follow a character on an imaginary journey. Rebecca refuses to use a press and is working in the Japanese tradition of hand printing. Each multicolored image has its own unique characteristics.

Rebecca’s work is representational with an eye for detail with close observation of  tone, shape and color. Working from life primarily in pastel, and studying under noted pastel artist Greg Hansel. She also studied the figure with Ann Cape and has attended sketch clubs regularly in Sydney. Rebecca will at times work from photographs, but only as a starting point or reference and will often change the composition and/or color of an image, never literally copying a photo.

"I try to look at what’s in front of me, a figure, still life or landscape, and find though deep observation a way to express that image onto canvas or paper. My art isn’t strictly literal, but is intended to offer a vibrancy of color and expressiveness. The aim is to convey a beauty that can’t be captured in a photograph."
