I have been making art for nearly thirty years, but only in the last five have I taken the plunge and committed myself full time.
In earlier years I worked mainly in Japanese Sumi painting and print making - black ink being my greatest love. This background has since evolved into work that takes the picture plane into three dimensions with colours - primarily red, white and, of course, black - literally coming out on the tips of fibres - often thousands - poked through the canvas. The process is quite meditative and the result suggests the molecular nature of colour - a kind of microscopic view of the dot that makes up the field.
I also like to play with canvases cutting them, filling them with latex, just seeing how far they can be pushed. I also play sculpturally with various fibres exploring their different expressions, from the sassy and cheeky to moody and contemplative.
