All that you have to know about the Gnostic Gospels

When the Bible contradicts itself!

Religion is one place where is scope for a lot of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts.’ No one has really witnessed the origin of any religion. There are no authentic written records that speak about the origin of time and the creation of the world. Whatever is written and documented so far is what we believe. Christianity is one religion that consolidates the whole history of the concept of the universe happened. Though it speaks from the divine perspective, most of it is accepted by the people. This is one place where science and religion contradict. But here we are not going to talk about how the rest of the world contradicts with Bible but how Bible contradicts itself.

Bible vs. Bible:

Yes, you heard us right. There are different biblical compilations. If you have to know how the Holy Bible was compiled, we will have to talk from the time of Constantine, the great Roman Emperor who worshipped pagan but established Christianity. It was through his efforts the Bible took the form of a proper scripture. But this is where a lot of major changes took place. A lot of books that wrote about the personal life of Christ and his followers were believed to have been ignored. The Council of Nicaea is where the compilation of Bible took place. The council made sure that books which may differ with the early beliefs of Christianity shall never be included in the Bible.

Jesus was undeniably God in the form of man. However, he was a man at the end of the day. So a lot of people who followed Christ recorded his life in such a way that emphasized more about his human traits and the way he led his life as a human being. The council feared that this might bring down the faith and decided not to make it a part of the Bible. The books that didn’t form part of the Bible are also termed as the ‘Lost Books of Bible.’   ‘What the council right back then?’ is still a debatable topic.

Now staying aside from the debate if you look at this controversy, this is where the Gnostic Gospels came in. So let’s dive a little deeper into the concept of Gnostic Gospels.

Gnostic Gospels:

Gnostic Gospels are obviously a part if the New Testament. Some of the Gnostic books that you would love to know are the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Phillip, Paul’s letter to Phillip and much more. There are also theories that say that there was a version of Gospel that was written by Judas. In case you are wondering who this Judas is, it is the same Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus Christ and offered him in the hands of Jews, surprised isn’t it? Though a lot of theology researchers rubbished the fact, the very thought of it rolls the tummy upside down. It is believed that a copy of all these scripts is safely preserved in the archives of the Vatican City.

Conclusion:

No one can imagine what the fate of Christianity would have been, had these gospels been a part of the Holy Bible. However, faith is something that is beyond words and books and Christians stands on pillars of such faith. So I still doubt if the inclusion of these Gnostic Bibles can shake the roots of Christianity.
